<p>In all the years Teri &amp; I were building web presences for SMBs, not one could grasp the power of operating an e-zine and assigning one person to handle it and their blog &#8211; even though both could be handled by one person in a couple of hours a week.</p>
<p>This is an important advantage, though, for any commissioned salespeople, though &#8211; if your company isn&#8217;t operating an effective blog/e-zine combination, take the task on your own shoulders and spend one night a week at it, or a bit of time each weekend as you prefer. In effect, you can draw from the pull any company advertising brings to build a solid list of your own customers &#8211; and a list you own can follow you to your next employer or your own business should you choose that route down the road!</p>

<p>I think you hit the nail right on the head with the offer of some sort of &#8216;ethical bribe&#8217; to entice people on to your list so that you can present them with opportunities that can help them out.</p>
<p>Going beyond the offers, you must provide them with useful content and gain their trust, and then you will begin to realize the power of a responsive list.</p>
